OUT OF ALEPPO is screened at Stony Brook University as a part of their Islamic Awareness Week. The screening is followed by a discussion about empathy, inclusion and shared humanity. WALK ON MY OWN is screened and discussed hosted by the United Nations Association of New York at the Dolby Screening Room. The conversation revolved around human rights issues and more specifically, Ndèye Fatou Fall’s short film. Her documentary depicts life in a small village in Senegal that abandoned the traditional practices of Female Genital Cutting and child marriage in order to promote both education and empowerment.
The International House in New York, NY screens the world premiere of WALK ON MY OWN. The screening is followed by a panel conversation about cultural shifts in Senegal with Holly Carter (executive director and founder of BYkids), Molly Melching (founder and creative director of Tostan) and Naima Dido (program director at Seed Program International).
SXSW EDU Panel, “Rikers: An Education Through Film,” on I COULD TELL YOU ‘BOUT MY LIFE at the Austin Convention Center on March 5th, 2019. The panel includes Michael Martin (filmmaker), Messiah Ramkissoon (artist, mentor, and advocate at Friends of Island Academy), and Holly Carter (founder and executive director of BYkids). The team was joined by Sammy Chadwick (BYkids Board member).
