Since 2007, we’ve handed cameras to young people around the world and paired them with professional filmmakers, so they can tell the stories only they can tell. Their documentaries reach audiences on public television and in classrooms nationwide.
Support A Classroom
$500 keeps our films and lesson plans free for teachers so they can spark classroom conversations about empathy, civic action and social change.
Support A School Screening
$1,500 brings a young BYkids filmmaker or mentor into a school for a screening and conversation.
Fund an FDF Award
$5,000 funds a Film Development Fund award, giving one young person seed funding and a professional mentor to turn their idea into a ready-to-produce film.
Fund a Film's Sound and Score
$10,000 gives a young director's story its sound, with an original score and a final sound mix.
Support Educator Resources
$15,000 creates classroom resources for one film, including curriculum, discussion guides and Take Action guides. Shared through PBS LearningMedia and Discovery Education, these resources turn the film into an evergreen teaching tool.
Support a Film's Post-Production
$25,000 supports a film's post-production, as the young director works side by side with our editors to shape their footage into a finished film.
Fund a Season of Marketing
$50,000 takes our next season to television audiences nationwide through a public television marketing campaign. As public media budgets shrink, gifts like this ensure these films find the audience they deserve.
Underwrite a Year of the Film Development Fund
$100,000 underwrites one full cycle of the Film Development Fund, our
pipeline for new BYkids films. Your gift covers one worldwide open
call and jury review of every idea, plus seed funding and mentorship
for the FDF winner. Today's winning ideas become next season's films.
