Dan Gordon

Filmmaker and Youth Film Educator

Dan leads the arts education nonprofit Gordon Education, with a mission to empower youth voices through the art of filmmaking. For two decades, Dan has been a youth theater and film educator working in schools, camps, community centers and juvenile detention centers in New York City, Los Angeles and Houston. Since 2022, Dan has specialized in using filmmaking as an intervention strategy for youth in the juvenile justice system and has produced 10 original films with justice-involved youth.

Dan began his television and film career in children’s media producing a series for PBS LearningMedia, Take the Stage, with former executive producer of Sesame Street Carol-Lynn Parente. He has produced a documentary on Indian classical dance currently streaming on PBS Passport, along with other community centered documentaries that feature youth and cultural communities. He is now finishing up production of a documentary that follows a group of Palestinian and Israeli teenagers in a peace-building institute.

On a side note, Dan has been using BYkids films as part of his documentary filmmaking curriculum for years.
