Shine, My South Africa
Directed by Siya Msutu Mentored by Anja Baron
Witness a young woman’s journey of healing in a small Black township in Cape Town, South Africa, where the legacy of apartheid still looms large. 27:00 minutes, airing on public television in Fall 2026.
In SHINE, MY SOUTH AFRICA, Siya Msutu (21 years old) shares her journey “from lifelong traumas toward a future.” Poverty, crime, violence and the legacy of apartheid had taken a toll on her mental health as she and her community struggled to recover from generations of neglect. In her search to become whole, Siya discovered Heartshine Academy, an organization that uses the arts as a method for healing. Through the gift of art therapy, dance, song and sound healing, Siya finds a new way to be herself.
